What is hosting?

Hosting is a service that makes your web pages available to anyone connected to the Internet. This is accomplished by using a computer with the correct hardware and software to make it possible. The pages may be made public, so they are available to everyone, or private so only authenticated users can access them.

 

Additionally, hosting provides a location for your email to wait to be retrieved.  When someone sends an email to you@yourdomain.ca it needs to be stored until you use a mail client or web-based email management software to view/edit/delete the message.
